Can I tell you something you probably aren’t expecting to hear from a business coach?
Take today off.
Not tomorrow. Not after you clear your inbox or finish the content plan or send that proposal. Today. Right now.
I know how that sounds. The internet will tell you to show up daily, stay consistent, never let the momentum drop. And so you keep pushing, keep showing up, keep trying to do all the things across the hours you actually have available. And still, something feels like it isn’t clicking.
What if the problem isn’t your strategy? What if it’s your state?
The noise online is loud and it’s exhausting
Somewhere along the way, the message in the online business world became this: if you’re not showing up every single day, you’re falling behind. If you’re not consistent, you’re invisible. If you rest, you lose.
And so women in business, especially Mums working in the pockets of their day, have internalised this message and turned it into a relentless pressure. They’re squeezing content creation into school pick-up windows. They’re answering DMs after the kids are in bed. They’re lying awake running through tomorrow’s to do list.
They are busy. Incredibly busy. And yet they feel stuck.
That’s the part nobody talks about. You can be doing all the things and still feel like nothing is moving. Because doing more from a depleted state doesn’t create momentum. It just creates more exhaustion.
Your state shapes everything
Here is something I come back to again and again, both in my own business and with every woman I coach.
Your state shapes everything.
The decisions you make, the content you create, the way you show up in a sales conversation, the energy you bring to your clients, it all flows from where you are internally. And when you are running on empty, everything suffers. Not because you aren’t capable, but because you are human.
A version of you that is scattered, overwhelmed, and exhausted cannot give your business what it actually needs. She makes decisions from fear. She creates content that feels flat. She shows up, but not fully.
But a version of you that has rested, reset, and actually taken a breath? She is a different person to work with. She has clarity. She has ideas. She creates and connects from a place of genuine energy, and that changes everything.
Rest doesn’t just restore your body. It shifts your state. And your state is the foundation everything else is built on.
Rest is not the opposite of strategy. It is the strategy.
I want to challenge the idea that rest is something you earn after you’ve done enough. That you get to stop when the list is finished, the clients are signed, the income is consistent.
Because that moment rarely comes. There will always be more on the list. And if you’re waiting until everything is done to finally look after yourself, you will be waiting for a very long time.
What if instead, rest was something you built in intentionally? Not as a reward, but as a requirement. A non-negotiable part of how you run your business, not separate from your strategy but woven into it.
When you rest, you return. And when you return, you bring something with you that no amount of pushing could have created. A renewed perspective. A shifted energy. A clarity that only comes when you stop long enough to hear yourself think.
That is not a luxury. That is a business asset.
Permission to stop
If you are reading this and your body is tired, your mind is full, and you can’t remember the last time you sat down without your phone in your hand or a task in your head, this is your permission slip.
Put it down. Step away. Take care of you first.
Not because your business doesn’t matter. Because it does, and so do you. And the two are not in competition. When you are well, your business benefits. When you are running on fumes, everything suffers, including the people you are trying to serve.
Your business will still be there tomorrow. And you will be so much more equipped to show up for it when you have given yourself what you actually need today.
Rest is not giving up. It is not laziness. It is not falling behind.
Rest is the strategy.
