I get it … because I’ve been there.

For years, I chased a version of success that I thought I was supposed to want. Long hours, saying yes to everything, prioritising my business above all else, because that’s what it takes to build something successful, right?

Wrong.

Behind the scenes, I was exhausted, overwhelmed and questioning if it was even worth it. My business looked great from the outside, but inside? It was running me into the ground.

That was my wake-up call. I realised that I had built a business that didn’t actually support my life, it took from it. And that’s when everything changed.

So let me ask you:

• Do you feel constantly pulled in a million directions?

• Do you find it hard to switch off, even when you’re spending time with family or trying to rest?

Most of us start a business for freedom, but we accidentally create something that feels just as restrictive as a 9-5 (if not more). Alignment isn’t a luxury, it’s the foundation of a sustainable, fulfilling business.

Let’s go through a simple yet powerful exercise to help you get clear on where you’re at right now and where you actually want to be.

Step 1: Define your ideal life + business

For a moment, forget how things are and focus on how you want them to be. If there were no limits, no financial stress, no time constraints … what would your ideal life + business look like?

Ask yourself:

✨ What does my dream day look like from start to finish?
✨ How many hours am I working? What kind of work am I doing?
✨ How do I feel in my business? Energised? At ease? Excited?
✨ What do I have space for outside of work – family, hobbies, travel, rest?

Take a deep breath and look at what you wrote down. This is your vision.

This is what alignment looks like for you.

Step 2: Audit your current reality

How does your current life and business compare to the vision you just wrote? Be honest:

• Where am I out of alignment?
• What feels heavy, overwhelming, or just ‘off’?
• Where am I spending my time and energy that doesn’t match my priorities?

When I did this exercise for myself, my biggest realisation was that I told myself I was building my business for my family, but my reality? I was constantly distracted, glued to my phone, snappy and stressed. That wasn’t alignment … it was hustle disguised as purpose.

This part might feel uncomfortable. But this is your wake up call.

Where is there a disconnect between what you want and how you’re actually living?

Step 3: Small, intentional shifts toward alignment

Now, it’s time to take action. And before you panic – no, you don’t need to burn everything down and start over. Alignment happens in small, daily choices.

Ask yourself:

💡 What’s one thing I can let go of that’s keeping me out of alignment?
💡 What’s one boundary I need to set – whether it’s with clients, my schedule or myself?
💡 What’s one habit or routine I can start implementing this week that will move me closer to my ideal life + business?

For me, the shift started with setting boundaries around my work hours – no more late night client calls. It meant choosing only the projects and clients that felt right. It meant building a business that fit my life, instead of squeezing my life into my business.
