Last week, my daughter was curled up on the couch with tissues, Netflix and endless cups of water. She wasn’t well, which meant my usual work rhythm went straight out the window.
And in that moment, I had two choices:
👉 Push through and try to juggle everything (hello, burnout).
👉 Or honour the season I was in and adjust.
I chose the second one because I didn’t build my business to add more stress to my life. I built it for freedom, presence, and to create the space to be both the Mum and business owner I want to be.
Here’s what it looks like in practice when life happens and the kids are home sick:
If I’ve got calls, meetings, or appointments in my calendar, I move them. Every single time. And you know what? My clients always understand, because they know family comes first.
My social posts, podcast episodes, emails, and blogs are planned and scheduled in advance. This creates a buffer so that if I need to step back for a few days (or even a couple of weeks), my business is still showing up and serving my audience.
I still check in with my 1:1 clients on WhatsApp and my Life Aligned Business™ Mastermind clients inside our private community app but only when I have the capacity. I give myself full permission to not be “on” all the time, because holding space for others requires energy, and sometimes that energy just isn’t there.
One of the best parts? Thanks to the automations I’ve set up, my business can still sign new clients while I’m making soup, playing nurse, or curled up on the couch. My systems are working behind the scenes so that business doesn’t stall when I can’t be hands-on.
The bigger lesson
Life doesn’t pause when you’re running a business. Kids get sick, curveballs get thrown, and things don’t always go to plan. That’s why it’s so important to build a business that can hold you during those seasons, not one that crumbles the minute you have to step away.
And here’s the truth: it’s possible to create a business that supports your life, instead of the other way around. It comes down to planning, boundaries, and simple systems that give you breathing room when you need it most.
