When I first started my business, I thought success meant working long hours and always being “on.” But over time, I realised something … it’s not about how many hours you work, it’s about how you use the time you have.
Now that both my kids are in full-time school, I technically have Monday to Friday, 9am – 2:30pm, available to work on my business.
But here’s the thing … I choose not to dedicate all of that time to work.
Why? Because you can run a successful, thriving business on far less time.
It’s a lesson I’ve learned through experience, and it’s changed not just how I work, but how I live. Time is precious, and how you use it can be the game-changer for both your life + business.
So, if you’re feeling overwhelmed, stretched too thin, or convinced you need more hours to succeed, I want to share some practical tips to help you reclaim your time, focus on what matters, and grow your business without the burnout.
Not all tasks are created equal. To avoid getting bogged down in busywork, start each day by identifying the top 3 things that will truly move the needle in your business.
Ask yourself:
By focusing on fewer, high-impact activities, you’ll accomplish more in less time.
Time blocking is a game-changer for productivity. Assign specific tasks to specific times of the day, and stick to the schedule. For example:
Knowing what you’re working on and when prevents decision fatigue and keeps you from bouncing between tasks.
You don’t need to do it all yourself. Tasks like scheduling social media posts, sending invoices, or even customer support can often be automated or outsourced.
Consider tools like:
Freeing up your time from these routine tasks allows you to focus on what only you can do – growing your business.
Switching between tasks can kill productivity. To stay in the flow, batch similar tasks together. For instance:
This focused approach minimises distractions and helps you accomplish more in less time.
If you’re working from home, it’s easy for work to spill into every corner of your day. Setting clear start and end times for your workday ensures you create balance between your business and personal life.
When work ends, give yourself permission to switch gears fully:
Boundaries aren’t just good for your mental health, they make you more productive during your work hours.
At the end of each day, take 5 -10 mins to ask yourself:
This simple habit helps you course-correct and continuously improve, ensuring you’re always working smarter, not harder.
Your time is your greatest asset
You don’t need all day to build a thriving, successful business. It’s not about the hours you put in, it’s about how intentionally you use them.
By prioritising, time-blocking, and creating systems that work for you, you can build a business that supports the life you want, not one that demands all of your time and energy.
If this resonates with you and you’re ready to take control of your time, I’d love to help. Let’s work together to create a strategy that aligns with your goals and gives you more freedom in your business and life.
