So many women in business believe their biggest problem is not having enough time.
They tell themselves:
“I just need more hours in the day”
“If I had more time I’d finally get ahead”
“Once things calm down I’ll focus on growing my business”
But after working with women in business for years, I can tell you something honestly.
Most of the time it’s not actually a lack of time.
It’s how your time and energy are being used.
Your calendar is full.
You’re busy most of the day.
You’re working whenever you can fit it in.
Yet somehow the things that actually move your business forward keep getting pushed to tomorrow.
Content you wanted to create.
Ideas you wanted to bring to life.
Income generating work that would help your business grow.
And before you know it, the week is over and you’re wondering where did the time actually go?
If this feels familiar, you’re not alone. It’s something I see all the time with the women I support.
Here are five reasons your time and energy management might be holding you back in business and how to start shifting it.
When you’re running a business, the to-do list never really ends.
There are emails to respond to.
Content to post.
Admin tasks.
Ideas to explore.
Client work.
Marketing.
Planning.
When everything feels urgent, you end up jumping between tasks all day.
You might answer a message, start a piece of content, open another tab, respond to an email, then go back to the first task you started.
By the end of the day you’ve been busy but nothing meaningful feels finished.
The shift happens when you start identifying your priorities for the week.
Instead of trying to do everything, you focus on the small number of things that will actually move your business forward.
Suddenly your time has direction instead of feeling scattered.
One of the biggest challenges for women in business is that work can easily spill into every part of the day.
You might say you’re finished for the afternoon, but then you:
Your brain never fully switches off.
And when your brain never feels finished, your energy slowly drains.
Creating clear containers for work changes everything.
When you know when work starts and when it finishes, your brain can actually relax outside those hours.
And interestingly, when work has a container, you often get more done in less time.
Another common pattern I see is waking up each day deciding what to do in the moment.
“What should I focus on today?”
“What feels urgent right now?”
“What needs to be done next?”
That constant decision-making uses up a huge amount of mental energy.
Instead of using your focus to move things forward, you’re using it to decide what to do.
When your week has intentional structure, your brain no longer has to make those decisions all day.
You already know when you’re working.
You know what your priorities are.
You know what your week is designed for.
This frees up your energy for the work that actually matters.
Sometimes the problem isn’t your calendar.
It’s your energy.
When your energy is low, everything feels harder than it should.
Tasks that would normally take 30 minutes take an hour.
You struggle to concentrate.
You feel overwhelmed by simple decisions.
And then you start telling yourself you’re not being productive enough.
But productivity isn’t just about time.
Energy matters just as much.
Protecting your energy, your capacity, and your mental space is a big part of building a business that actually feels sustainable.
Not all hours of the day are equal.
Some times your brain is sharp and focused.
Other times you’re tired, distracted, or mentally drained.
But many people try to force themselves to do deep, focused work when their brain simply isn’t in the right state for it.
That’s when things start to feel frustrating.
When you begin aligning your work with your natural energy patterns, everything becomes easier.
Deep focus tasks get done faster.
Creative work flows more naturally.
And you stop fighting your own brain.
When you start managing both your time and your energy, something powerful happens.
Your week stops feeling chaotic.
You start making real progress in your business.
You stop feeling like you’re constantly behind.
And perhaps most importantly…
You actually have space to enjoy your life again.
More presence with your family.
More breathing room in your days.
More freedom in the business you’re building.
